Jim Dowling Festival 2020

With all that is going around at the moment regarding the Covid-19 we are tentatively announcing that we can look forward to another great Jim Dowling Uilleann Pipe and Trad Festival for 2020. We will keep an eye on the situation and make a call down the line closer to the dates or worst case scenario, reschedule the event.

Taking place in Glengarriff from Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st June it promises to be another cracking festival with some great acts on the way.

Kicking off the Thursday night we have 3 On The Bund, a great new band who came together after meeting in the University of Limerick’s prestigious Irish World Academy in March 2019.

On the Friday we are bringing the legends – Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny with support from Padraig McGovern who will play at the Eccles Hotel. This will be a gig not to be missed, nuff said!

On the Saturday we have Ulaid and Ross Ainslie with Stephen Byrne at the Eccles Hotel. Some array of talent here, a great show for sure.

Added to this we will have the usual mix of sessions around the village, with workshops and other special events also taking place.

Máirtín Ó Muirí to be remembered on Garinish Island

Every year the Jim Dowling Festival has a secret concert and this year will be no different. Not sure about the secret bit, but news does get out and people love these intimate concerts.

This year’s event will be in memory of Máirtín Ó Muirí, who sadly passed away two years ago, and will include a host of the finest artists paying tribute to a great man and a great supporter of the festival here in Glengarriff.

The concert will take place on Garinish Island on the Saturday afternoon at 3pm … so get your sea legs on and we will see you there.

The Vallely Brothers are heading west!

We are pleased to announce that the Vallely Brothers will be playing at this year’s festival.

Niall, Cillian and Caoimhin Vallely are members of a traditional music dynasty from Armagh. They learnt their music at the Armagh Pipers Club from their parents Brian and Eithne, and have gone on to forge professional music careers that have brought them all over the world.

This time, they are heading down south to us here in Glengarriff and no doubt will entertain us greatly over the weekend

Connla are back for 2019

Connla, who hail from Armagh and Derry, are joining us again this year, after being a big hit when they last played at the festival in 2017.

Their concert at the Park Hotel has been one of the festival highlights and they also love a good session – so watch out around the pubs and hotels in Glengarriff, you could be in for a treat.

Connla are Ciara McCafferty (vocals), Ciaran Carlin (Flute/Whistles), Paul Starrett (Guitar), Emer Mallon (Harp) and Conor Mallon (Uilleann Pipes/Whistles) – we can’t wait to have them back!
